What are the eligibility requirements for internships?

The Summer Intern Program is open to Purdue undergraduate and graduate students in technical degree programs (including engineering, management, science, and technology) from all five campuses and eight Statewide Technology sites. Additional requirements are determined by the employers.

What types of employers offer internships?

All internships are located within the state of Indiana. Employers include small and medium-sized manufacturing companies, engineering consulting firms, cities, and counties.

How much will I be paid?

Your salary will depend on your employer, who will offer you the internship and negotiate your rate of pay with you directly.

How many internships are available?

The number of internships varies from year to year depending on employer participation.

What majors are employers typically looking for?

The most frequently requested majors are civil engineering, electrical and computer engineering, environmental engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, management, computer graphics technology, computer integrated manufacturing technology, computer and information systems technology, electrical engineering technology, industrial technology, and mechanical engineering technology.

Are internships open to freshmen?

Some internships are open to freshmen, but most are not.

Are internships open to international students?

International students should speak with an advisor in the Office of International Students and Scholars to find out the rules about internships for your visa status and to complete any required paperwork before applying for an internship.

How do I sign up to find an internship?

Registration is available now.

What if I have a problem on the job?

Purdue faculty are available to advise you during your internship, if needed. Our faculty and staff also make visits to some internship sites during the summer.
